“Frost is a splendid creation, a cross between Rumpole and Colombo.” —The Times
From the Inside Flap
On a rainy night in Denton, Detective Inspector Jack Frost is called to the site of a macabre discovery in the woods – that of a human foot. Meanwhile a multiple rapist is on the loose, the local supermarket reports poisoned stock, and a man claims to have cut up his wife into little pieces yet can’t recall where he hid them. But it is when two young girls are reported missing in quick succession that the Denton crime wave reaches terrifying heights.
As the exhausted Frost staggers from case to case, pressured from all sides and haunted by memories of his wife, something nasty arrives at the station in the form of Detective Chief Inspector Skinner. The scheming, slippery Skinner clearly has his eye on the Superintendent’s office, but his first job is to manipulate the transfer of the unorthodox DI Jack Frost to another division. Will Frost find the missing girls before his new nemesis forces him away from Denton once and for all?

I find very few books as good as the Frost series - Colin Dexter's novels are the only real competition though they differ in pace. Frost is always the very fast-paced and you constantly wonder what more challenges could be piled upon him and yet he succeeds while giving establishment and bureaucracy the fingers up. A great read but be ready for the pace driving you to keep reading late into the night!

The final Frost
By JoeV
This is the sixth, (and also the last - the author passed away in 2007), D.I. Frost mystery. Frost is a rumpled, chain-smoking, booze-guzzling, profane detective on the Denton, (England), police force - and bears more than a passing resemblance to Superintendant Andrew Dalziel of Reginald Hill's series - although Andy is a tad more cerebral. The Frost books are non-stop express rides with our protagonist missing meals and sleep while chasing the loose ends of a half-dozen capers - all the while avoiding his superiors and paperwork.
This book fits that mold with Frost "investigating" the disappearance of three local teens, a blackmail scheme targeting a local supermarket chain and an international child pornography ring simultaneously - while dodging a new boss who is attempting to have him transferred. No Sherlock Holmes puzzles with well thought out deductions here but still an enjoyable read.
